We’re sorry to announce that Rapid Transit Cycleshop has ceased operations after 21 years at the corner of North & Wolcott. Both the Wicker Park, and the UIC location are closed.
Rapid Transit has been our labor of love and a spectacular, unforgettable adventure. We’ve been privileged to work with talented and dedicated people throughout the years who helped make the shop a neighborhood institution. We’re honored to have been a part of Chicago’s cycling landscape as it grew and evolved over the years.
This is our plea as we close a family business that has sustained us and our many employees over the years: please consider the power of your purchasing decisions. Supporting local, independently owned small businesses affects not only the livelihood of their owners and employees, but also has a tremendous impact on the character of your neighborhood. Wicker Park created an amazing opportunity for us, let us cut our teeth and hone our skills for many years. Sadly, though this is still a great community, the the economic pressures make impossible to thrive here as an independent business. It is a small consolation that as Rapid Transit closes, we are in good company of other long-time local merchants also closing their doors.
We are forever and deeply grateful to all customers who've gone out of their way to support us in the last two decades, and in the final weeks. We will be busy this winter planning our next adventure. Who knows what the future holds?
